Free Will is the Mother of All Blessings

24 Jan

If there is one thing that drives me crazy, it’s when I hear someone say..”G-d has blessed me with a lot of money”.  Really?  That’s was all G-d (or the Life Force of the Universe from hereon) could come up with?  Wasn’t the concept of money something man created?

Your answer might be something like; The Life Force of the Universe (G-d) created everything – including money, so, accordingly, money is a blessing.  So, based on that logic, I guess nuclear bombs are blessings as well.

Let’s break this controversy down by first deciding what a “blessing” is.  I would suggest that a blessing is a tool given to us by The Life Force of the Universe that contributes to or enhances our happiness.  Now, let’s take it one step further.  Does money contribute to our happiness?  Some may say…absolutely.  I say…sometimes, but not always.

Money can enhance our happiness if used correctly.  Using money to buy items that fulfill egoic needs, such as instant gratification and/or status boosts, can never make us happy.  Feeding our ego is like feeding a bottomless pit. It  will always seem to be empty no matter how much you feed it.

However, assuming that we were happy to begin with, if we have the ability to pass that joy around to others – how much happier would we be.  In this case, if money is utilized accordingly, it can be beneficial – although it is not necessary.

If we continue based on this logic, we can then conclude that money may contribute to our happiness, but first we must be “happy”.   Is that even possible?  How can one just be happy – especially if he is struggling every day to make sure he has a roof over his head and food on the table?

This is the million dollar question.

Let’s go back to our definition of a blessing.  A blessing contributes to our happiness.  There are so many things that contribute to our happiness, but what initiates it?  I say…. Faith.

Faith enables us to rely on The Life Force of the Universe to help us get through rough spots in our lives.  Faith tells us that everything is the way it is supposed to be because The Life Force of the Universe wants us to thrive, because, after all, we are his creations.

Consider someone you care about deeply.  What if that person was addicted to a drug and they cannot be rehabilitated.  They are so overcome with the desire to use the drug, that nothing you say or do will get through to them.  Does that mean that you don’t care about them if you just give up on them?  Are they giving you a choice?  If they offered you a tiny glimmer of hope…would you give up on them?

That is how I picture my (and everyone else’s) relationship with The Life Force of the Universe.  We have to give The Life Force of the Universe some indication that we need It, and The Life Force of the Universe will be there for us.

But…how can The Life Force of the Universe help us, if we don’t want to be helped?  If we think that all we need is more money and everything will be ok, we are asking for help from money – not The Life Force of the Universe.  We have put all faith in money and not our Creator.  In other words, we are running to the drug to drown our problems instead of asking for help from someone (or Something) that loves us – and the worst part is, we don’t even realize we are doing it.

With faith, we feel content with our lives.  Faith does not mean that The Life Force of the Universe will give us everything we think we want, it only comforts us with the knowledge that we do not need more than we have.  Faith is the initiator of blessings.  Without faith, there can be no blessings.

One more thought….

Faith is not as simple to attain as our religious leaders have led us to believe it is.  It will not be attained by following strict rules and guidelines without common sense to back those rules and guidelines up.  Accordingly, without free will, you will not be able to find faith.  Following dogma out of fear negates faith.  Faith is comfort that The Life Force of the Universe loves you now and forever.  Fear is the opposite.  Free will is the Mother of all Blessings because it is the only tool (or blessing) that The Life Force of the Universe gave us so that we will be able to find faith.  Use it wisely and good luck!

Wow…it’s all I can say, what a post. You are so right about faith, but notice that even do it is not easy to attain according to what we are told, it is still remarkable known that we do need it to be able to have a better life in terms of pleasing our needs. This is a great reflection.

Exactly. With true faith, we can be free – but our wants and needs are just different than they would be without faith in something greater. Without faith in something greater than us, we are stuck in the rut of thinking that this might be all there is so lets make the best of it….i.e. accumulate as much money and physical possessions as possible, because after all – we are not of true faith that there is something more than what we see – if that makes any sense.
But I get the feeling you understand what I am saying very well.
