Please read the links below to get a clear picture of the implications of this bill.  I was going to write a full post on this subject, but another blogger that I have been reading lately beat me to it.

Life is full of controversy so here is a thought to live by:
Why is life unfair?
Because there’s never going to be a system that is fair to everyone.

I hope people wake up to what this bill really is. It may seem benign on the surface but this is a fist step toward the world George Orwell wrote about in 1984. It is a step back to the days when the Nazis controlled the German media feeding the people propaganda to turn neighbor against neighbor. We have to start thinking beyond what is right in front of us and to envision where things will lead.

I just got finished fighting – and I mean screaming and yelling – about this. He thinks that the government has to do whatever the government has to do to stop people from stealing. I tried to explain to him that its the same thing as telling us that since there were so many car accidents in the city of bumblefxxx we are not allowed to drive cars anymore. He did not see my point and called it a ridiculous comparison. I could go on because we were arguing for about an hour. I am sure the my husband is not the only one who believes that government has our best intentions in mind and they have no choice to make these laws to “protect” its citizens.
You mentioned German media feeding people propaganda to turn neighbor against neighbor – that is exactly what it is going to do. Trying to explain to someone who believes that the government’s first priority is to serve and protect that there are possible ulterior motives involved as well as money being passed in order to get other’s agendas that don’t necessarily serve the purposes of the majority – is nearly impossible. They will call you a “conspiracist” and end the argument there.
This is how it happens. This is how are freedoms are slowly pulled away from us. They use the innocent trust of innocent people against them.
P.S. My husband and I were having fun debating very loudly- not really fighting 🙂

The thing that no one seems to realize is that there are already Anti-piracy laws in place. Laws that are not fully enforced, there is no need for SOPA beyond the basis of it’s very Draconian nature.

Exactly – another argument that I used on my husband – first enforce the original laws. Creating more laws because it is too hard to enforce the ones you already have simply makes no sense.
