In much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow….
I spend a lot of my time thinking about what “its” all about. Sometimes I come to very strong conclusions that what we think life is – is really nothing even close to the truth. On these days, I get very sad. Even though what I think our lives amount to are much, much more than we have limited ourselves to and the possibilities seem to be endless – this is the reason tears occasionally come to my eyes. If only everyone would spend just a few moments a day and think about the human potential – the world would be a very different place.
I went to the mall yesterday, which happened to be Christmas Eve. I am Jewish and I don’t celebrate Christmas, but, like all holidays, the spirit of the holiday is felt, even by me who is a Jew, through its emphasis on our relationships with others. Give and receive gifts, have dinner with friends and family and sit and enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. Most shops are closed and there is literally nothing to do but enjoy others. But – there was something disturbing that stood out to me when I went to the mall yesterday. I could not believe the lines, the tension and the rudeness that filled the stores as the consumers raced to get their final gifts to share with their loved ones. Why are we not able to slow down? All the way up to the final hours before such a special day of love and happiness, we are shoving, pushing and yelling at eachother – I hate to say this – like vicious animals that are fighting for the last peice of carcass. If anyone would think about this part of ourselves, we would most likely become sad and maybe more aware of the fact that we are not even close to our collective potential as humans.
Wisdom is in all of us, we just have to connect to it in our minds. What I have said above is not something almost everyone of us has not thought about it. The sadness comes when we realize that our busy lives prevent us from contemplating a solution within ourselves. We are so stuck in the rat race of life, we have no time to focus on our evolution. Is life supposed to be a rat race??…. Shouldn’t a rat race be left for the rats?
